INS goes to Dubs at the Lake 2023

For the second year now, I made the trip down to McHenry, Maryland for Dubs at the Lake. While we didn't have a booth setup or get involved with the show with It's Not Stock, I still have this show on my to-do list to get out and enjoy personally. I really enjoy both the Dubs at the Lake and Dubs at the Gap shows that Jonathan throws and they're timed really well to have beautiful weather!
If you followed along the INS Instagram story, you may have seen that Google Maps decided to send me the complete wrong way on the trip down. I had initially hoped to leave early Friday morning to cruise down with a handful of friends from the area, but had too much going on and had to push my leave time back. After I had got caught up by mid-day Friday, I started to get the car ready for the weekend. It's been quite a while since I've given it a good detail, so I had to break out the clay bar and ended up missing out on cruising down with the second group of friends who were going down.
I left just around 7PM on Friday night and Google Maps had showed me about a 4 hour 45 minute trip down. It had me heading south until about Baltimore, and then cutting over west. The GPS did seem to be acting a little strange on my way down, a few times telling me to keep left or right on the highway where there was no split or exits, but I was tired and really didn't think much of it. I saw the signs for welcome to Virginia and thought, oh I guess we cut through part of VA on the trip there. When it showed me being about 20 minutes out, I had sent my friend a photo of the maps on CarPlay and he said I had somehow ended up ahead of him on the same road he was on. All of the sudden my GPS arrow started to spin and lose signal. I had to cancel the trip, and went back into recents to restart the trip, for it to show I was 3 hours and 45 minutes away from my destination, and that I was in the middle of Virginia.
At this point I was in disbelief, and I turned my phone off and back on again hoping it was a weird glitch. It wasn't... I was really in the middle of Virginia and was really almost 4 hours from where I needed to be. I was too tired to continue on, so I attempted to find a hotel for the night, to find only some super sketchy places that wanted almost $200 for a single night. I made the call to sleep in my car until sunrise and then continue the drive there.
Beyond my wild trip down, the weekend and the event were such a good time! I stayed with an awesome group of people and made a ton of new friends. My only complaint is that the weekend went by too fast! Events like this really remind me why I love the VW / Audi community and why I do what I do. I really want to make it down to Helen again next year for AVF, as the last time I was there was in 2014 for SoWo, but this event is so good that I'm going to be sad to miss it.
If you've ever contemplated checking out Dubs at the Lake or Dubs at the Gap, I highly recommend both events!
